This small café and roastery in Gardenvale, Melbourne showcases coffee at an entirely new level. Every aspect of coffee roasting is celebrated in this industrial fit out – from roasting, to destoning, storing, packaging, grinding and tasting.
All the necessary equipment, along with a kitchen and the point of sale, are housed in two rows of off-the-shelf pallet racking. The racking not only forms the bones of the fit out but also allows bags of beans to be stored at height. To access these bags, the clearances in the interior allow a walkie stacker to be moved around. Ensuring tables and chairs don’t find their way into the path of the walkie stacker, the line of tables are fixed to a track, where they can be slid up and down to make larger or smaller gatherings.
The materials used in the interior are utilitarian and honest, featuring plywood, exposed brick and powder coated steel.
